Job description
Overview

Do you have a passion for precision? Are you delighted by detail? Enthusiastic about setting excellent standards? If yes, you could join our dynamic operational team. We are looking for one Quality Assurance Manager to job-share with an existing Quality Assurance Manager to help deliver high quality recruitment campaigns at pace. The role is 60% FTE with a working pattern of Wednesday–Friday each week.

The Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) is an independent public body responsible for designing, planning, and running recruitment campaigns to select judges in the courts and tribunals, up to and including the High Court, as well as non-legal tribunal members. We aim to keep processes robust, inclusive, and attractive to candidates from the widest possible backgrounds.

Main responsibilities
  • Review JAC shortlisting and selection materials to ensure quality standards are met across recruitment campaigns, while ensuring JAC policies and procedures are followed.
  • Liaise with judges in drafting and producing shortlisting and selection materials for various campaigns.
  • Oversee the production of candidate assessment reports, briefing and supporting panel members to draft high quality, accurate and consistent reports.
  • Present the JAC’s intended sifting and selection day materials to senior stakeholders.
  • Manage the JAC’s recruitment day observation programme, ensuring an appropriate level of interviews are observed in line with procedure.
  • Lead the provision of candidate feedback using diverse data sources to produce informative and accessible reports.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the production of JAC materials or recruitment processes; present findings and lessons learned to key internal stakeholders.

The duties described are not exhaustive. The job holder may be required to undertake reasonable alterations and additional tasks of a similar level as necessary.

Office attendance

JAC staff work in a hybrid way with a minimum of 40% per week in the London Westminster office. In periods of busy activity, successful applicants may need to attend the office or interview venues for more than 40% per week, which could include early starts and longer days.

Recruitment process and behaviours

We assess candidates against these behaviours during the process:

  • Managing a Quality Service
  • Changing and Improving
  • Delivering at Pace
  • Communicating and Influencing

In addition, experience will be assessed against the essential criteria in the job description.

Applications will be sifted based on CV, statement of suitability (250 words max), and written evidence of two core behaviours (250 words per behaviour): Managing a Quality Service and Changing and Improving.

We also provide information about the Civil Service recruitment framework and other details at the links below. Applicants invited for interview may be asked to undertake a brief work exercise.

Interviews are expected to take place in November 2025 and may be remote (Microsoft Teams) or face-to-face. More details will be provided to candidates invited to interview.

Security and nationality

Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check. People working with government assets must complete baseline personnel security standard checks. This job is broadly open to UK nationals, certain Commonwealth and EU nationals, and others with appropriate rights to work in the UK under the EU Settlement Scheme or other leave arrangements; refer to the nationality requirements in the original job description.
