Job summary

Job description

Looking for Personal Assistants to join an existing team to help Lachlan, a 31 year old young man with Cerebral Palsy. The pay rate is £13.33 per hour.

This role is part time and flexible – hours to be arranged with family, although there is the possibility of full time work. Applications from students looking to work 15 hours or less welcome.

Family home is in a beautiful setting in the countryside near Gorebridge and Vogrie Country Park, but not on a bus route. Own transport is essential.

DUTIES
  • Assisting with daily living – Lachlan has his own apartment within the family house, and duties may involve reading books, assisting Lachlan to choose and listen to music and TV, preparation of simple foods and snacks, and other activities.
  • Trips out and socialising – there is a van available for this, with ramp access. Outings to the coast/ beach, local attractions or into Edinburgh (pubs, cinema, concerts, theatre, museums, galleries, events).
  • Communication – Lachlan uses both low tech and high tech communication. He uses a yes/no system and a communication device which he operates with eye gaze. Assistance with this would be required but training would be provided (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7_f-pR8SBY).
  • All Personal Care – including bathing, assisting with meals and hoist transfers.
PERSON SPEC

Team requires self‑motivated individuals who are trustworthy, reliable, with lots of energy and a good sense of humour. It is essential that you be a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme or be willing to join. Some IT skills is an advantage.
