Job description

The Faculty of Mathematics is seeking to appoint an IT Technician to provide IT support services to the Faculty. The IT Technician provides a range of professional support services to staff across the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) and the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics (DPMMS). The Departments collectively employ just over 100 academic staff, more than 110 research staff, nearly 90 professional services staff, and additionally provides support to our student community.

Reporting to the Helpdesk Manager, the IT Technician will be the first point of contact for IT support in all aspects of computing and Audio Visual (AV).

We are seeking someone with strong customer service skills and experience, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well in a team. An understanding of a range of computer systems, including Windows and Networking, would be beneficial. This role would suit someone who is already working in IT, and it would be beneficial, but not essential, to have an understanding about the University of Cambridge and the University systems. We will provide full training to help you learn and grow in the role.

This role offers you an opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in IT and customer service, while contributing to the success of the IT team.

We encourage our team to develop relevant skills through training in agreement with the line manager.

This position is available either as a fixed‑term appointment for 1 year or as a secondment opportunity. The expected end date is 31 March 2027 in both instances.
