Job description

As an IT Technician for the Cabot Learning Federation, you will have the opportunity to help keep our schools running smoothly - powering teaching, learning and innovation through reliable, secure technology. This is a role where your support directly shapes students' success and gives you the chance to lead meaningful digital change every day.

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive IT Technician to join our ICT team at Cabot Learning Federation (CLF). In this key frontline role, you will ensure high‑quality ICT provision that underpins learning, safeguarding and operational excellence across our academies.

Working under the guidance of senior ICT staff and in close collaboration with colleagues across the Trust, you will provide responsive, hands‑on technical support to staff and students. You will play a vital role in maintaining ICT systems, resolving day‑to‑day issues, supporting classroom technology, and contributing to the smooth delivery of academy‑based and trust‑wide IT services.

This is an excellent opportunity for an IT support professional who enjoys problem‑solving, supporting users, and seeing the real‑world impact of their work in an education environment. The role offers variety, responsibility and progression, within a large, mission‑driven organisation where technology truly enables success.

As an IT Technician, you will:
  • Act as a first point of contact for ICT support, responding to, logging and resolving hardware and software incidents for staff and students.
  • Support and maintain ICT equipment including desktop and laptop devices, interactive displays, projectors and other classroom technologies.
  • Carry out basic hardware diagnostics, repairs, installations and upgrades.
  • Support network systems and infrastructure under the guidance of senior ICT colleagues, including switches, patching and configuration changes.
  • Assist with system upgrades, audits and ICT improvement projects, contributing to digital innovation across the academy and Trust.
  • Provide clear advice, guidance and informal training to users, adapting your communication style to suit varying technical ability.
  • Supervise, coach or mentor less experienced team members where appropriate.
About you

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about technology and motivated by helping others succeed.

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills (including GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above, or equivalent).
  • A relevant IT qualification at Level 3 or above (or equivalent experience), such as ITIL.
  • Knowledge of Windows 10/11 installation and configuration, along with desktop and laptop hardware maintenance.
  • Experience working within an IT support or technical services environment.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to diagnose issues and adapt solutions to users' needs.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • The ability to manage a busy workload and respond flexibly to planned and ad‑hoc requests.
  • An understanding of ICT security, data protection and safeguarding responsibilities, particularly within an education setting.
  • A patient, collaborative approach and a genuine interest in supporting staff and students.
Desirable experience includes:
  • Microsoft server environments, Active Directory, antivirus systems and virtualisation.
  • Networking technologies such as switches, DNS and DHCP.
  • Classroom and AV technologies.
  • Experience working within a school or education‑based environment.

By joining Cabot Learning Federation, you'll be part of a values‑driven organisation where technology plays a vital role in improving life chances for children and young people.

We offer:
  • The opportunity to make a real difference every day, supporting teaching, learning and innovation.
  • Varied, hands‑on IT work across hardware, software and user support.
  • A supportive and collaborative IT team, with strong links to the Central IT service.
  • Opportunities for professional development and skills progression within a large multi‑academy trust.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and continuous improvement.
