Job Title: Design Mechanical Engineer

Location: Birmingham, UK

Type: Permanent, full-time (36.25 hours/week under an agile working model)

You will join a forward-thinking, multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy delivering mechanical, electrical, and low-carbon building services. The team spans the UK, Poland, and India—over 240 staff across 12 offices—and values sustainability, collaborative design, and employee wellbeing above all.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver design engineering across all project stages, contributing drawings, specifications, and calculations manually and via computer-assisted methods
  • Liaise with design team members to understand client requirements and assist with selecting appropriate solutions, plant, and equipment
  • Represent the team in project meetings and support site installations by ensuring compliance with designs
  • Implement sustainable design practices, including low-zero carbon technologies (LZC)
  • Monitor your own design work for quality, budget alignment, and delivery timelines
  • Commit to continuous professional development and stay informed on emerging technologies and cross-disciplinary methods
What They're Looking For
  • Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering—or HNC/HND with solid design experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Relux/Dialux, Amtech, and Revit
  • Working knowledge of British and European Standards and Building Regulations; familiarity with HTMs is advantageous
  • Professional membership with CIBSE or IET desirable
  • Experience with renewable technologies and BREEAM sustainability frameworks
  • Appreciation of electrical engineering to facilitate cross-disciplinary teamwork
