Job Title: Interim Senior Building Safety Manager
Pay Rate: GBP600 DAILY UMBRELLA
Hours: 36 Hours a week (Mon–Fri) 9AM–5PM
Duration: Initial 3 month contract
Location: Hybrid working– 3 days office/site based in Newham
Overall Purpose of Job
This new role is to assist Housing Services and its building safety team in ensuring co‑ordination and management of all matters relating to structural and fire safety within the housing asset portfolio, to meet forthcoming legislative requirements.
The role requires the management of a selected number of high‑rise buildings ensuring compliance with all current and future regulations with regards to building safety and fire safety. To promote and communicate building and fire safety to all residents within high rise and high risk residential buildings.
Key Tasks and Accountabilities
- To effectively and proactively manage a set number of high‑rise residential buildings ensuring that the requirements of the building safety case are delivered within a culture where residents are at the centre of the process, with a strong commitment to engagement and continuous improvement.
- Act as the named Building Safety Manager for your assigned buildings liaising directly with the Building Safety Regulator and the fire service as necessary. Ensure the effective operation and availability of general safety and fire safety equipment within all assigned blocks.
- Provide clear advice, guidance and instruction regarding general safety and fire safety to all stakeholders, working closely with the Building and Resident safety manager and the Head of Resident engagement.
- Lead on the management of the assigned buildings actively driving performance and providing a whole building approach to fire and structural safety.
- Monitor, liaise and engage with all teams undertaking repairs, maintenance and general management of the allocated buildings developing a strong compliance culture.
- Constantly monitor the status of the building including the completion of repairs, fire risk assessment actions and scheduled maintenance. Instruct on actions as required including suitable mitigations to maintain building safety. Develop an escalation process and report non‑compliance if it occurs.
- Liaise with the Housing and legal teams to ensure access to properties to allow the completion of essential maintenance work, repairs and improvements where these affect resident safety.
- Review and update the building safety case as required to ensure that it is valid and up‑to‑date, working with other teams within the department to ensure that this is completed.
- Manage third‑party activity within the allocated blocks ensuring that any works are completed safely, that the correct risk assessments and method statements have been prepared and that works are inspected upon completion.
