A growing SME business in Basildon is seeking a Management Accountant to oversee day-to-day finance operations and provide commercial insights. The role involves producing management accounts, managing the month-end process, and liaising with senior stakeholders. At Rutherford Briant, we’re partnering with a growing SME business based in Basildon. As the business continues to scale, they are looking to appoint a Management Accountant to take ownership of day-to-day finance, provide commercial insight, and support informed decision-making across the business.
This is a hands-on role, ideal for a Management Accountant who enjoys working in a fast-paced SME environment and being close to operations.
Produce monthly management accounts with clear commentary and variance analysis
Own the month-end close process, including accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations
Prepare budgets, forecasts, and cashflow projections, supporting business planning
Maintain strong financial controls and ensure accuracy across the ledger
Partner closely with directors and operational teams to provide meaningful financial insight
Analyse performance, margins, and costs to support profitability and growth
Assist with statutory accounts preparation and liaise with external accountants and advisors
Support process improvements as the business continues to develop its finance function
Proven experience in a Management Accountant or similar role within an SME environment
Strong understanding of management accounting and end-to-end month-end processes
Solid balance sheet knowledge and confidence owning reconciliations
Strong Excel skills and the ability to analyse and interpret financial data
A proactive, adaptable mindset with the confidence to work autonomously
Excellent communication skills, comfortable working directly with senior stakeholders
Part-qualified, fully qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA), or qualified by experience
