Are you a qualified accountant with strong technical expertise in financial accounting? Do you enjoy getting stuck into reconciliations, VAT, and audit prep in the Housing sector? Are you available for an interim contract with hybrid working in Kent?

My client, a respected Social Housing provider, is seeking an Interim Financial Accountant to join their finance team on a 3–6-month contract. The successful candidate will take the lead on core financial accounting responsibilities, ensuring robust reconciliations are in place, VAT returns are completed accurately, and the organisation is well-prepared for next year’s year-end and external audit.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading on all aspects of financial accounting, including monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Preparing and submitting accurate VAT returns
  • Supporting audit planning and laying the groundwork for a smooth year-end process
  • Strengthening financial controls and identifying areas for improvement
  • Working collaboratively across the wider finance team to ensure compliance and timely reporting

This is an excellent opportunity for a technical accountant with strong Housing sector experience to make a real impact. You'll be helping to stabilise and improve processes while ensuring the business is well-positioned for the coming year.

The role is based in Kent, with two days per week in the office and flexibility for remote working on the remaining days.

To be considered, please meet the following criteria:

  • Fully qualified accountant or actively studying finalist (ACA, ACCA, CIPFA or equivalent)
  • Experience in financial accounting within the Social Housing sector
  • Proven track record of delivering VAT returns, reconciliations, and audit prep
  • Comfortable working in a hybrid pattern and hitting the ground running
