Job description

We are seeking an experienced, technically strong finance professional to serve as Interim Director of Finance for a complex Gloucestershire‑based charitable organisation. While the organisation is moderate in size, its structure is sophisticated, encompassing multiple entities and activities that require careful governance and financial oversight. You will provide leadership, assurance, and expert guidance across the finance function, supporting a small but capable team to deliver effectively.

Reporting to the CEO you will:
  • Lead financial decision‑making and provide expert judgement on complex matters.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to the Board and Finance Committee (two per year), as well as other key stakeholders.
  • Oversee year‑end processes and financial reporting, while actively shaping team operations and coordination.
  • Provide reassurance and strategic guidance to the team, embedding robust practices and processes.
  • Balance technical accounting expertise with high‑quality management reporting and clear, persuasive communication across the organisation.
About you
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with 10+ years post‑qualification experience.
  • Strong technical expertise in finance, accounting, and reporting.
  • Experience in the charitable or not‑for‑profit sector is highly desirable.
  • Confident in reporting to Board level and engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Hands‑on and pragmatic, capable of managing a small, flat team and optimising performance.
  • Excellent communicator, able to provide clarity, confidence, and leadership across the organisation.
  • Flexible and decisive, with the ability to quickly establish credibility in a team requiring guidance and support.
