Overview

Integrated Care Nurse to join the Planned Care team at HMP Pentonville, a category B prison located in London. The site supports a capacity of 1200 inmates and is a remand prison for inmates awaiting trial. It is well situated in London, approximately 10 minutes from Kings Cross station. The site offers an on-site staff canteen and gym, with strong training and development opportunities and active support for staff development.

Hours

37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7.30am–4.00pm. Some flexibility required.

This position is full-time with an annual salary up to £52,000 per annum FTE, depending on experience.

Legal right to work in the UK is required. Due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

Main duties of the job
  • A Physical Health Nurse working in mental health settings plays a vital role in bridging the gap between physical and mental healthcare.
  • Assess and manage the physical health needs of individuals with serious mental illness, often collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver holistic, evidence-based care.
  • Monitor vital signs, coordinate clinics, support staff training, and promote health awareness to reduce health inequalities and prevent diagnostic overshadowing.
  • Undertake medication rounds, dispense controlled medication, respond to emergency situations, assess patients, and undertake reception screening.
  • Use skills and knowledge to deliver nurse-led clinics for your patient group, with support from a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide outstanding evidence-based care, listen to and act on patient feedback to ensure care is personalised and informed by what matters to them.
Qualifications and experience
  • Primary Care experience, Practice Nurse or Mental Health experience is desirable.
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD).
  • Understanding of the complexities of multidisciplinary and multi-agency working.
  • A non-judgmental and compassionate approach.
  • Experience in hospital, community, or prison environments is advantageous.
Additional criteria
  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required; this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and will require a DBS disclosure.
