Independent School - Teacher of Physical Education

Location: Cranleigh, Surrey
Start date: January/February 2026
Contract: Maternity Cover (9 to 12 months)
Salary: 40,000 to 60,000 per annum

A thriving co-educational independent school for pupils aged Nursery to Year 11, set in beautiful rural Surrey. With a roll of 300 pupils and small class sizes, the ethos enables every child to be known as an individual, nurtured, and challenged to achieve their personal best.

We are seeking an outstanding and enthusiastic Physical Education Teacher to join this dedicated Sports Department, teaching PE from Reception through to Year 11, including GCSE Physical Education. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Sport and play a central role in delivering and promoting a varied, engaging and ambitious PE and Games programme.

The Role
  • Teach PE throughout the School up to Year 11, including GCSE PE (theory and practical).
  • Coach and officiate a range of sports (Netball, Cricket, Football and Hockey particularly desirable).
  • Support the Director of Sport with curriculum development, schemes of work and departmental planning.
  • Organise termly events for the Sport Scholarship Programme.
  • Run the Sports Leaders Level 1 Award as a weekly club.
  • Contribute to a rich co-curricular programme, including after-school activities, teams and events.
  • Drive a 16-seat minibus to fixtures (full driving licence essential).
  • Serve as a Form Tutor (Years 8-9), helping support pupils' academic progress and wellbeing.
  • All teachers are expected to create stimulating lessons, maintain high standards of behaviour, support pupil progress, and uphold the School's ethos of kindness, respect, and personal achievement.
