Job description

HR Officer - 6 month FTC

Salary: £30,000

Location: Manchester, London or Leeds office (2 days in office / 3 days from home)

Here at BPP Education Group our wonderful HR team are expanding, and an opportunity has arisen for a methodical and organised individual to join the team as a HR Officer. We’re looking for an experienced HR Officer who can step straight into the role. You’ll already be confident managing the full employee lifecycle and will quickly adapt to our systems, processes, and pace.

With the main focus being on onboarding and HR operations, this role is ideal for someone who has “done it all before” and is comfortable working in a fast-moving environment. We expect that you’ll be bringing your skills, experience, and initiative from day one. You will be responsible for providing support across multiple functions such as the issuing of contracts to new starters, pre-employment checks, oversight over the HR mailbox, and managing offboarding.

What if you read the description and don't meet every single requirement? We encourage you to apply anyway - we value diverse backgrounds and are committed to inclusivity!

Why work for BPP Education Group?

It is a great time to join BPP Education Group as we have enjoyed a sustained period of growth, offering a wealth of opportunities to our staff, students and clients. There are many more great reasons to join BPP Education Group such as:

  • Brilliantly, you can study any of BPP’s courses for free – be it a professional qualification or full degree.
  • With hybrid working available, you’ll be able to split your time between one of our centres and wherever you choose to call home.
  • We also provide a generous annual leave entitlement of 30 days, and there’s a rewards package that includes retail discounts and much more.

Other key benefits include our Group Personal Pension Plan, dedicated private healthcare and dental plans that offer additional assurance to look after you and your family

What you’ll be doing

In this role you will provide efficient, accurate HR support across the entire employee lifecycle.

As such, you will be responsible for:

Onboarding

  • Issue contracts of employment and complete all pre-employment checks (right-to-work, DBS, credit, professional qualification, references, etc).
  • Keep new starters and hiring managers updated at every stage.
  • Set up new starter records in the HR system and raise IT tickets.

HR Operations

  • Manage the HR mailbox — respond, re-assign, or escalate queries promptly.
  • Process contractual changes, family-friendly leave, and annual leave calculations.
  • Manage offboarding: issue leaver letters, update records, send exit surveys, and close systems access on time.

You’ll work with

  • Payroll
  • IT
  • Talent Acquisition
  • Line managers across the business

What we’re looking for

To be successful in this role you will need to have a proven track record in the following areas:

Essential

  • 1+ years’ experience in HR operations and/or onboarding, able to manage at least one of these areas confidently with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to new systems.
  • Working knowledge of HR databases and systems (experience with Zellis HRIS and Tribepad ATS is a plus).
  • Strong Microsoft 365 skills, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook (including mail merges and detailed spreadsheets).
  • Good understanding of GDPR and the ability to handle confidential information.
  • Solid knowledge of UK pre-employment checks and employment legislation, preferably in a regulated environment.
  • Exceptional organisation and attention to detail — able to juggle multiple priorities without compromising quality.
  • Clear, confident communication — able to update stakeholders and push back when compliance standards must be met.
  • Proactive mindset with a drive for continuous improvement and suggesting better ways of working.
  • Strong customer service focus and ability to build effective relationships.
