Job Overview

A UK-based company is seeking a seasoned HR Specialist to support and manage its growing network of independent contractors, with a strong preference for candidates based in South Africa. This role is ideal for an experienced HR professional who understands the nuances of working with contractors and can bring structure, compliance, and support to a remote-first, contractor-led business.

As an independent contractor yourself, you’ll operate autonomously while supporting the company’s strategic goals, building efficient onboarding processes, and maintaining contractor documentation. If you’re proactive, well-versed in HR best practices, and confident advising on compliance and process in a contractor-only environment, we’d love to hear from you.

  • Oversee the full lifecycle of independent contractors, including onboarding, documentation, and offboarding.
  • Develop and maintain contractor agreements in line with compliance and operational needs.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for contractor support, addressing queries, documentation requests, and workflow setup.
  • Implement and refine HR systems and processes tailored to contractor needs.
  • Track contract terms, renewal dates, and compliance across multiple service providers.
  • Work closely with leadership to forecast contractor resourcing needs and streamline operations.
  • Stay updated on contractor-related laws and best practices, ensuring all processes align with current standards.
  • Support initiatives to boost contractor satisfaction, communication, and retention.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ HR experience, with at least 2 years working with independent contractors.
  • Strong understanding of contractor workforce management, including agreements, onboarding, and remote operations.
  • Familiarity with labour and compliance considerations (specific to independent contractors).
  • Experience using HR software/tools for contractor recordkeeping and automation.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and organisational skills.
  • Self-driven and able to operate independently as a service provider to the business.
  • Access to a reliable internet connection and personal laptop or PC is essential.
