Job description
Overview

Role Title: HR Officer
Reports To: Senior Personnel Officer

The HR team helps the College to ensure that the College has suitably qualified staff with appropriate behavioural attributes to deliver the key objectives set within the LCC’s Strategic Framework, to implement the HR Strategy and to meet the expectations of students from our staff.

The HR team also maintains HR records including information on pay, sickness absence, or hours worked and stores documents in relation to appraisals, pay reviews, disciplinary proceedings and contracts. The HR team ensures that there is a well-organised system allowing for storing HR data and complies with all relevant legislation and that the records are kept for as long as needed but no longer, and that records are destroyed securely.

The HR team ensures that the College gets the maximum return from its investment on human resources and that the College has HR strategies, policies helping the College to comply with the appropriate legislations and contractual obligations and as well as meet the strategic objectives and indicators as laid out in the LCC Strategic Framework.

Main Function and Tasks
  • 4.1.Managing staff recruitment processes, including handling of the application and shortlisting process, liaising with candidates and scheduling interviews, preparing offers and contracts of employment, referencing and collecting required documentation at offer stage;
  • 4.2.Supporting and coordinating the onboarding process for new starters, including scheduling of inductions;
  • 4.3.Maintaining an accurate and efficient HR database with employee information and necessary documentation, including administering new starters, changes and leavers on the system;
  • 4.4.Ensuring annual staff reviews across all departments, including probationary period reviews take place and keep the appropriate records;
  • 4.5.Assisting the Finance Director with attendance and leave records;
  • 4.6.Assisting with preparations for disciplinary and grievance hearings as necessary
  • 4.7.Managing and maintaining contracts, personnel files and other employee information
  • 4.8.Managing absenteeism through absence management policy for both short- and long-term absence in line with HR objectives
  • 4.9.Any other reasonable duties which may be required by management from time to time
  • 4.10.This job description is neither exhaustive nor exclusive and may be reviewed in the future depending upon operational requirements and staffing levels.
  • 4.11.Produce quarterly reports for the PEG and BoD
  • 4.12.Undertake any additional tasks assigned by the line manager, Principal or a member of the Board of Directors.

  • 5.1.Undertake other duties as assigned by management and commensurate with the level of this post.
  • 5.2.Foster a positive work environment with a good team spirit including the wider support teams, with student and staff experience at the forefront of all efforts.
Job Type

  • 6.2.Salary: Grade E;
  • 6.3.Campus-based at Barclay Hall, Avicenna House and/or Barking
Essential Requirements
  • 7.1.Education to degree level or equivalent;
  • 7.2.Has or is currently working towards a CIPD qualification of level 3 or above;
  • 7.3.Is a member or working towards becoming a member of CIPD
Required Experience
  • 8.1.Minimum of two years’ experience in HR and/or administrative roles
  • 8.2.Some experience in a Career Advisor or Consultancy role is beneficial;
