Job description
HR Advisor - 10 Month FTC

At Tetra Tech RPS, we're looking for an ambitious and adaptable HR Advisor to join our team on a 10-month fixed-term contract, supporting a diverse range of people initiatives across the UK.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on all aspects of the employee lifecycle—from performance and absence management to employee relations and organisational change. Whether you're actively seeking your next challenge or open to exploring new possibilities, this role offers the chance to make a real impact while developing your expertise in a fast-paced, professional services environment.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

As a key member of our HR team, you'll provide proactive, pragmatic advice to managers and employees, ensuring employment relationships are managed effectively and in line with best practice. Your responsibilities will include managing casework, supporting change initiatives such as TUPE and restructures, and contributing to recruitment and onboarding activities. You'll also produce accurate HR reports and analyse data to inform decision-making.

Reporting to the HR Business Partner, you'll work collaboratively with stakeholders across the business, acting as a trusted advisor and ambassador for our people-first culture.

Your Impact in this Position

You'll play a vital role in resolving employee relations matters, coaching managers to build capability, and supporting projects that drive continuous improvement. Success in this role is measured through timely, accurate advice, effective case management, and strong stakeholder relationships. With clear pathways for growth and the chance to make a meaningful impact, this is a role where your development and achievements are actively supported.

Your Toolkit for Success at Tetra Tech RPS

At Tetra Tech RPS, we recruit using core capabilities—the essential skills, experience, and responsibilities required to perform the role effectively.

Advisory Support

Advisory support is at the heart of this role, requiring the HR Advisor to provide accurate, timely, and pragmatic guidance on a wide range of HR matters. This includes performance management, absence management, welfare issues, and employee relations. The successful candidate will act as a trusted point of contact for managers and employees, ensuring that advice is aligned with current employment legislation and best practice. Building capability in line managers through coaching and guidance is a key aspect of this responsibility, enabling them to manage employment relationships effectively and confidently.

Casework

Casework management is a critical component of the HR Advisor role. The position involves supporting and guiding managers through all aspects of employee relations casework, including disciplinary and grievance processes, probation reviews, capability and performance management, and ill-health or absence cases. The HR Advisor must ensure that all casework is handled professionally, fairly, and in compliance with employment law, while maintaining confidentiality and delivering timely resolutions. Experience in managing complex cases and supporting organisational change initiatives such as restructures, redundancies, and TUPE transfers is essential.

Microsoft Office Expertise

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, is vital for this role. The HR Advisor will be responsible for producing accurate HR reports and statistics, analysing data to identify trends, and providing insights that support decision-making. Strong Excel skills, including the ability to manage spreadsheets, use formulas, and present data clearly, are required. Familiarity with other Microsoft tools such as Word and Outlook is also important for preparing documentation, managing correspondence, and ensuring efficient communication across the business.

Stakeholder management and project support

The HR Advisor will build strong relationships with managers and employees, acting as a credible and approachable point of contact for HR matters. This includes managing staff absence processes, supporting line managers during interviews and selection, and contributing to HR projects that drive continuous improvement. The ability to collaborate effectively, influence outcomes, and maintain confidentiality is essential, as is a proactive approach to problem-solving and delivering results within agreed timelines.

Mandatory Requirements
  • CIPD Associate membership (or above) and a degree in HR or related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Full UK driving licence (travel to various offices may be required)
  • Beneficial: Experience in a professional services environment
  • Ability to manage HR casework independently and provide pragmatic advice
