Overview

Morgan Hunt are currently working with a Not-for-Profit Housing Provider in their search for an interim Housing Management Lawyer to cover a period of maternity leave. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in supporting housing operations through high-quality legal advice and representation, while working alongside an established in-house legal team.

In this varied role, you will manage your own caseload, with a primary focus on disrepair claims. You will also provide advice and litigation support across the full range of housing management issues, including possessions, anti-social behaviour, income management and leasehold matters. The role will see you drafting pleadings, witness statements and other legal documents, working closely with counsel and external partners, and helping to ensure the organisation meets its regulatory and compliance obligations.

You will also contribute to the wider team by providing training on housing management law where required, maintaining legal templates and procedures, and supporting the Head of Legal with reporting and governance. This is a role at the heart of the business, offering the chance to work in a fast-paced environment where your expertise will directly impact service delivery and resident outcomes.

Job Title: Housing Management Lawyer

Location: Hybrid - 3 days per week in office (Eastleigh, Bracknell or Yeovil)

Salary: Up to £53,000 (depending on experience)

Job Type: 12-month FTC (maternity cover)

Hours: Full-Time, with flexible working considered

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of housing management litigation with a strong focus on disrepair.
  • Provide specialist legal advice on housing management, including possessions, anti-social behaviour, income management and leasehold issues.
  • Draft pleadings, applications, witness statements and instructions to counsel.
  • Build and maintain relationships with counsel, experts and third parties.
  • Identify and advise on legal and regulatory risks, ensuring compliance with relevant frameworks.
  • Deliver legal training and updates to colleagues as required.
  • Support the Head of Legal with reporting on legal work, costs savings and governance.
  • Contribute to the development of templates, policies and legal processes to improve efficiency.
Candidate Profile
  • Qualified housing solicitor, barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with up to 5 years PQE.
  • Strong experience of housing management litigation, particularly disrepair.
  • Knowledge of wider tenancy and housing issues, including possessions and ASB injunctions.
  • Experience drafting legal documents and preparing cases for court.
  • Background in the social housing sector (or directly comparable environment).
  • Confident, collaborative and able to work independently.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Digitally savvy and comfortable working with case management systems.
