An educational institution in Oxford seeks a part-time Hospitality & Chef Teacher to deliver and assess Culinary Arts courses. The role requires significant culinary experience and teaching capabilities. The successful candidate will engage with industry partners and help shape future chefs in a supportive environment. Offering competitive salaries and professional development opportunities.
Do you want to transform your career and pass on your hospitality and catering experience to the next generation?
We are looking for a chef to teach and support our Level 1 and Level 2 Culinary Arts provision within the Activate Learning Hospitality and Catering department at Reading College. You will be responsible for the delivery, assessment, and tracking student achievement for the courses.
This post provides an excellent opportunity for an individual with passion and drive who is committed to enabling our students to unlock their potential and switch on to the power of learning. For example, a culinary arts student from one of our colleges has been crowned the Young Risotto Chef of the Year 2021 and we would love the candidate for this post to continue to drive competition experiences forward.
Our catering offering at Activate Learning is also truly unique. In partnership with Heston Blumenthal's The Fat Duck Group, our curriculum has been developed to advance our student's cooking skills.
This is a permanent, part-time position working 22.5 hours per week on Tuesdays to Thursdays (0.61 FTE) based at our City of Oxford College Campus. These days can be flexible for the right candidate.
You will have worked in the industry as a Head Chef, Sous Chef, or Chef de Partie and you will have a passion for using this experience to develop the skills of the future generation.
Teaching experience is required for this role. In addition to having the necessary qualifications and industry experience to teach on our Hospitality and Catering courses, you must be able to demonstrate previous teaching experience and the attributes of an inspirational educator. We will support your continued professional development in the FE sector, but a background in teaching is essential.
Communication with industry partners is also a requirement for this role as we work closely with hotel chains, local restaurants, and contract catering employers to supply work placement, apprenticeships, mentorships and masterclass demonstrations for our students.
While not essential, we’re particularly interested in candidates with teaching, assessing, and IQA qualifications.
You will also have strong organisation skills coupled with the ability to prioritise workloads and will benefit from being part of a supportive team, working in a varied and interesting role with a variety of opportunities for career development.
Here at Activate Learning, we recognise the importance of a good induction when joining a new organisation. Whether you are an experienced teacher or new to teaching, we provide all teaching staff with a comprehensive, mandatory, three-day induction programme. This provides new employees with an understanding of Activate Learning’s mission, values and Learning Philosophy led culture, ensuring you feel connected and supported from day one.
In addition, we offer a one-day Introduction to Teaching session, covering our teaching, learning, and assessment approaches.
