Job description

Job Title: Homeless Prevention Officer Ref: Redcar 5275732 Pay rate: £16.90 per hour PAYE Role length: Anticipated 3 - 4 months Working arrangements: Occasionally you will be required to work outside normal office hours i.e. evenings and weekends Additional requirement: Full driving licence

The role

We are seeking a very experienced Homeless Prevention Officer, with knowledge of the jigsaw case management system, to carry out day to day homeless prevention duties supporting people with their homeless needs by providing timely and appropriate housing advice and support to vulnerable households. The aim is to prevent and alleviate homelessness and where necessary be responsible for the investigation of homelessness applications in accordance with legislation and guidance.

Key duties and responsibilities
  • To ensure that clients who approach the Homelessness Service receive appropriate advice and support in order to prevent/alleviate homelessness
  • To assist the Housing Service Team Leader in the development of strategies and schemes to prevent homelessness and to implement good practice
  • To maintain appropriate statistical, financial and administrative records relating to homelessness prevention
  • To assist the Housing Service Team Leader in the analysis of data associated with homelessness and its prevention
  • To provide promotional advice and education to specific client groups at risk of homelessness
  • Where necessary, to carry out home visits to clients that are at risk of homelessness in order to assess circumstances and provide appropriate advice, through the delivery of a flexible hours homelessness prevention service
  • Liaise with landlords and relevant agencies in order to resolve issues which could result in Homelessness
  • To assist the Housing Service Team Leader in the allocation and monitoring of the “Homelessness Prevention Fund” in order to prevent specific cases of homelessness
  • Where required, to investigate and assess claims of homelessness/potential homelessness in accordance with existing legislation
  • To arrange temporary accommodation for homeless households as necessary including involvement in the emergency out-of-hours service
  • To contribute to the implementation of the Homelessness Strategy and relevant action plans
  • To contribute to the department’s Service Plan and ensuring that the objectives set out in the plan are achieved with effective monitoring and evaluation
