HMO Inspections Officer

Rate: £35–£45 per hour
Location: East of England
Start Date: January 2026
Contract: 3 Months

My client, a local council in the East of England, is seeking an experienced HMO Inspections Officer to join their Housing team on a short-term contract. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to improving housing standards and ensuring compliance across the private rented sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out compliance inspections of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) in line with relevant legislation and council policies.
  • Assess property conditions, identify hazards, and ensure adherence to licensing requirements.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Advise landlords and managing agents on compliance and remedial actions.
  • Take enforcement action where necessary, including serving notices and preparing evidence for legal proceedings.
What They’re Looking For
  • Strong knowledge of housing legislation, particularly HMO licensing and Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
  • Previous experience conducting property inspections within a local authority or similar setting.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a busy caseload
