Overview

Job Title: Hindu Chaplain
Location: Gatwick Immigration Removal Centre
Contract: Part-time (flexible working hours)
Salary: £16.80 per hour + Company Benefits

Here at Serco we are looking to recruit a Religious Visitor as part of our Chaplaincy team to provide person-centred care, promoting a sense of hope and direction to residents and staff. As a Hindu Minister you will provide pastoral care and seek to ensure the spiritual welfare of residents and staff. You will offer expert faith guidance within the establishment and help ensure faith groups observe their religious holy days and festivals. You will facilitate faith-specific services and contribute to the delivery of daily statutory duties including religious induction. You will deliver awareness programmes for residents, provide training for chaplaincy volunteers, and focus on your own spiritual health and development through time for private prayer, study and retreat. You will attend chaplaincy meetings and forums, distribute religious literature and materials, and build relationships with support agencies and community volunteer groups. You will help maintain chaplaincy facilities and equipment, assist with chaplaincy administration, and respond to applications and complaints in a timely manner. You will contribute to multi-disciplinary work with Safer Custody, Security and Wing forums to address issues in line with the Duty Safeties Officer (DSO).

Responsibilities
  • Deliver religious services and pastoral care appropriate to Hindu residents and staff, ideally in a custodial environment.
  • Support the needs and requirements of the resident population across faith groups and observe religious holy days and festivals.
  • Provide crisis leadership and pastoral care in crisis events; contribute to risk reduction and safeguarding as required.
  • Work in a multi-faith environment with knowledge of other represented faiths; participate in chaplaincy administration and facility maintenance.
  • Attend and contribute to chaplaincy meetings and forums; engage with external support agencies and community volunteers.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience delivering religious services, ideally in a custodial environment or similar setting; proven professionalism and leadership in religious work.
  • Working knowledge of other faiths represented at the centre; ability to operate in a multi-faith environment.
  • Minimum faith eligibility requirements for your faith tradition; experience in similar environments beneficial.
Role Details
  • Hours: 5 hours per week.
  • Language: language proficiency expectations note that applicants with basic or no English are encouraged to apply.
  • Security: role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; all offers subject to security clearance and Home Office approval.
