Overview

We are seeking a proactive and dedicated Utilities Services Technician to join our client's team in Surrey. This role plays a vital part in supporting highway maintenance operations by helping to prevent utility service strikes, promoting safety on-site, and ensuring effective planning around existing infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out utility surveys across designated sites, identifying underground and overhead services
  • Advise operational teams on safe excavation techniques and service avoidance measures
  • Support teams in tracing, locating, and managing buried and visible utility assets
  • Liaise with contractors, local authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure best practice and safety compliance
  • Keep detailed and accurate records of all findings, utility data, and any interventions
  • Contribute to risk assessments and method statements related to utility works
  • Provide updates and reports to supervisors and project managers as required
Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience in utilities, civil engineering, highways, or a related field (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of service avoidance and health & safety requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret utility drawings and digital mapping systems
  • Good communication skills and confidence working with a range of stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to record-keeping
  • Relevant training or certifications (e.g., CAT & Genny, NRSWA) beneficial but not essential
