Job description
Highly specialist Speech and Language Therapist

We have a great opportunity for a Highly Specialist SLT in the NUH Neuro Rehabilitation Outpatient Team. Neuro Out-Patients offer specialist multi-disciplinary assessment and interventions for adults with a range of neurological conditions. We require an SLT with highly developed clinical skills and a passion for working with this client group. You will be joining a close knit well-established MDT. The service is predominantly based at the City Hospital but where clinically indicated patients are seen in their own home.

The post is made up of 0.6wte sessions within the Neuro Rehab Outpatient Team, with 0.4wte sessions in the inpatient Stroke team currently, with a possibility of these sessions being in the team that cover Neurosurgery (not yet confirmed).

You will be part of a large dynamic SLT service where you will have peer supervision and the opportunity to collaborate with other SLTs at NUH who also deliver inpatient and outpatient SLT. There are opportunities for training and development of your clinical and leadership skills.

This is a full time post but we would consider part time requests. There may be an additional requirement to work on the weekend and bank holidays as part of a rota.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a specialist clinical service and provide high quality Speech and Language Therapy services to a range of outpatients with acquired neurological conditions. We are looking for someone with advanced clinical reasoning, critical thinking and reflection skills. There is close working with clinical MDT for co-ordinated and integrated clinical care. The post-holder will also work with the MDT for service development, service evaluation and governance. There is also close working with the other outpatient SLTs within the service for mutual mentoring.

The post holder will provide a specialist clinical service to acute inpatients on the Stroke wards, providing in-depth assessment and intensive therapy. The post holder will have advanced skills in communication and dysphagia, ideally in instrumental assessments.
