We are looking to recruit a Highly Specialist Clinical Practitioner to join our Health & Justice team at HMYOI Feltham A. By joining our Prisons Health Care Team, you will look after the healthcare needs of patients residing in secure environments and contribute to promoting health and well-being. Our healthcare services operate on a 7-day week model to ensure patient healthcare is always managed and maintained to high standards. Main duties of the job

Provide a comprehensive specialist therapeutic service to young people at HMYOI Feltham in line with the principles and specifications of the SECURE STAIRS project. Provide specialist psychological assessment & therapy, offer advice & consultation on young people\'s psychological care to other core team members, coordinate multi-disciplinary collaborative formulation, develop and facilitate therapeutic groups, work \'through the gate\' on transition and resettlement, supervise assistant psychologists, students & graduate psychologists, participate in HWBT activities, work autonomously within professional guidelines and the service\'s policies, utilise research skills for audit and service development, provide clinical supervision, and offer training to prison staff and other professionals around therapeutic skills and adolescent mental health.

Additional responsibilities include attending team meetings and reflective practice groups, and contributing to a reflective culture within the healthcare team at Feltham.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide specialist psychological assessments to young people within HMYOI Feltham using complex data from psychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, observations and structured interviews.
  • Formulate and implement plans for psychological treatment and management of mental health and personality difficulties based on evidence-based methods.
  • Implement a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, adjust formulations using multiple explanatory models.
  • Evaluate and decide on treatment options considering theoretical and therapeutic models and developmental factors.
  • Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for assessment, treatment and discharge of patients under psychologically based care plans.
  • Integrate knowledge of complex mental health disorders, models of sexual behaviour and offending within psychological formulation.
  • Attend review meetings and other prison meetings; offer psychological opinion and referrals as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team, providing authoritative advice on psychological care and contributing to formulation, diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Support reflective practice and staff development activities; contribute to a reflective culture within the Feltham healthcare team.
  • Work with external agencies to share information and contribute to planning and resettlement as young people transition from custody to the community or adult estate.
  • Undertake risk assessment and management for individual patients and provide training on risk assessment to other professionals.

Person Specification

Qualification – Essential

  • Degree in Psychology or a related field, accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) or Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or equivalent body.
  • For psychology candidates; Doctoral level training in clinical, forensic or counselling psychology, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan development psychology (equivalent to BPS accreditation).
  • Or a recognised professional post-graduate qualification in Systemic Therapy, Family Therapy, Arts Therapies, Psychotherapy or relevant core mental health professional training; HCPC Registered or UKCP registration.

Desirable

  • Pre- or post-qualification training in research methodology, staff training or other applied psychology fields.
  • Further training in trauma therapies (e.g., EMDR, NET, TF-CBT); family therapy qualification; reflective practice; forensic mental health/psychology; yoga or mindfulness approaches.

Experience – Essential

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment across care settings (outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient).
  • Experience with diverse client groups across the life course, maintaining professionalism in challenging situations.
  • Experience representing psychology within multidisciplinary care; experience working with adolescents/young people.

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching and training; experience in secure settings (prison or hospital); experience with adolescents with complex needs; clinical work in harmful sexual behaviour or sexual health; running reflective practice or staff groups; offering clinical supervision.

Skills & Knowledge – Essential

  • Advanced skills in complex psychological assessment, intervention and management; ability to communicate complex information effectively; ability to provide consultation to professionals and non-professionals.
  • Doctoral-level knowledge of research methodology and data analysis; strong IT skills; ability to supervise junior staff; ability to teach and train others; strong clinical governance and risk management knowledge.
  • Broad knowledge of offender assessment and treatment models; ability to work with highly emotive material and challenging behaviours; commitment to CPD for forensic populations.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of specialised therapies for difficult-to-treat groups; ability to develop new initiatives; ability to write high-quality reports for varied audiences, including courts.
