Overview

At The Stanway School, we are proud to be a trusted and respected member of the local community. We are committed to providing an outstanding start for our young people through high-quality teaching, guidance and support. We are looking for a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to become a vital part of our community and help us create a positive and stimulating learning environment where every child can flourish. The successful candidate will work 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday). This is a 40-week-per-year role, which includes term time, non-pupil days, and an additional 1 week during school closure periods.

Responsibilities
  • Planning and delivering learning to small groups and whole classes;
  • Working one-to-one with students with complex learning needs;
  • Proactively supporting students with activities designed to enhance numeracy, literacy and social-emotional skills;
  • Providing cover if class teachers are absent;
  • Promoting positive behaviour, raising esteem and encouraging an aspirational culture;
  • Working with SEN students to foster their development as independent learners
Requirements
  • Experience of working in a school setting (primary or secondary);
  • The ability to use your own initiative to resolve routine problems independently;
  • A commitment to getting the best outcomes for all pupils;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to act on your own initiative;
  • A passion for working with children and helping them succeed;

About The Stanway School

The Stanway School is a heavily oversubscribed 11-16 comprehensive school with over 1,300 students on roll, the vast majority of whom live in Stanway and the surrounding areas west of Colchester. The school is a specialist in Humanities and Maths & Computing. A rebuilding programme has enhanced facilities, including the Creative Arts block opened in September 2018. By 2021, all year groups will be full with 280 students following this expansion. The school joined the Sigma Trust in September 2016.
