Overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Healthcare Support Worker to join the team at HMP Garth, a Category B male prison in Leyland. The prison houses around 1500 men with a variety of health needs and within this role, you’ll play an integral part in providing exceptional care for our patients. This role sits within our Primary Care team, where you will support with clinics, work with pharmacy and respond to emergency situations - no 2 days are ever the same!

Hours & Salary

This position is full time working 37.5 hours per week. Shifts are on a rolling 2 week rota, usually:

  • Week 1 - Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday
  • Week 2 - Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

Shifts are 07:30 – 19:45

You will receive an annual salary of between £24,669 and £28,690 FTE per annum depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

As our Healthcare Support Worker, your responsibilities will include:

  • Be involved in the implementation of clinical care packages, phlebotomy and assessment, treatment and the evaluation of patients’ care
  • This role will support the Primary Care Nursing team with all aspects of care
  • Support clinics – bloods, vaccinations, wound care etc
  • Act as a second checker in pharmacy as required
  • You will primarily be working within the primary care team, but may be required to carry out duties in the substance misuse or mental health teams
  • You will support the registered nurse in association with the patient and in accordance with instructions and training received whilst promoting safe patient care and be willing to develop and apply new skills to maintain and enhance clinical service delivery

Qualifications & Experience
  • Hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or be working towards this
  • Hold an NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care
  • Experience within phlebotomy is highly desirable
  • Experience in a clinical care setting previously – ideally from a hospital or prison setting
  • Clinical experience – venepuncture, tissue viability, etc.
  • Non-judgemental and compassionate approach
