An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 3 Healthcare Support Worker to join the Specialist Children's Short Break Team at Dragon Square (Part time - up to 33.75 hours per week) The service provides overnight short breaks for children and young people with severe learning disabilities and other associated complex needs such as behaviours of concern and complex health needs. The role involves working as part of a team of Registered nurses and Healthcare Support workers in conjunction with the wider multi-agency team such as school, social workers, consultants, specialist nurses, community nurses and parents/carers to meet the needs of the children and young people and achieve positive outcomes for them, as well as supporting families and minimising the risk of family breakdown. The role is very diverse and varied and involves supporting the children and young people to meet their personal hygiene, diet and nutrition, communication, religion, and cultural needs, and health and wellbeing, as well as social and sensory needs, and developing daily living skills and independence. There are lots of opportunities to support the children to have fun when they are on a short break. Key Responsibilities
  • PLEASE NOTE - SPONSORSHIP IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THIS ROLE, To provide support and spend therapeutic time with an allocated group of service users.
  • To promote and support the physical health, comfort, wellbeing and recovery of service-users, and to assist them in re-establishing their place in the community, as appropriate. To assist Registered Professionals in assessments and care planning/ implementation and evaluation of individualized care plans. To provide support and day-to-day supervision to junior staff members as required, demonstrating the Healthcare Support Worker role and role modelling good practice.

  • Communicates with service-users and carers, all members of the multi-disciplinary team and staff in external agencies using a variety of methods including Information Technology. Regularly reports and effectively communicates service-users health status and care aims in care records and verbal reports to Registered Health Professional staff members and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Identifies, minimizes and reports risks of danger, harm and abuse to senior colleagues.

  • Priority will be given to NHS staff across the region who are at risk of redundancy, where the vacancy is at the same band or one below their current band and candidates meet the essential criteria for this post.
  • All employees new to the Trust will be subject to a 6 month probationary period.
  • All clinical staff bands 2-4 that are new to the Trust will be required to complete a Care Certificate.
  • Canvassing of members of the Trust or of any Committee of the Trust directly or indirectly for any appointment under the Trust shall disqualify the candidate for such appointment.
