Job description
Overview

Healthcare Assistant / Receptionist – Band 3, 15 hours per week. Based at Hereford General Hospital with occasional duties at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. The role supports patients living with HIV and works with the HIV CNS and Consultant to manage a highly complex clinical caseload. Responsibilities include providing reception duties and booking appointments, and supporting the multi-professional team in clinics and patient assessments.

The post holder will work flexibly over 2 days per week, with Thursday clinic duties at Worcestershire Royal Hospital and another day at Hereford Hospital.

Main Duties
  • Accompany patients where clinical support is indicated and chaperone as required.
  • Take, record and monitor patient observations (blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturations, temperature, respirations) including NEWS 2 scoring and escalation as indicated.
  • Blood glucose monitoring.
  • Undertake asymptomatic sexual health screening as directed by the CNS.
  • Work within the phlebotomy service when required.
  • Cover reception duties and book appointments; answer telephone calls and bleeps and relay messages appropriately.
  • Assist in transferring patients using correct manual handling techniques and equipment.
  • Greet visitors and manage enquiries; ensure privacy and dignity of patients at all times.
  • Maintain health and safety at work; prepare notes (electronic and manual) and assist in preparation of medical/nursing notes for clinics.
Communication And Relationships

Maintain confidentiality and work with staff and patients discreetly. Report concerns to the nurse in charge and participate in ward/department meetings as appropriate. Attend to visitors and ensure safe environment practices.

Clerical And Administrative Duties
  • Reception/telephone duties and basic computer skills.
  • Stock control and clerical tasks as required; prepare notes for clinics.

  • NVQ Level 3 in Direct Care, or equivalent
  • Key Skills literacy/numeracy or equivalent
