Main duties of the job

To provide an important service for patients (personnel and their dependents), carrying out procedures and supporting patients to live healthier lives. This role supports the strategy and mission statement for Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) to ensure optimum health and wellbeing for patients and maximum deployability.

An important part of the service is clinical care including taking blood samples to be sent laboratory for testing, wound care and health promotion. The Healthcare Assistant also supports the delivery of the service by providing some administrative support, such as ordering clinical supplies.

They will demonstrate safe care for patients within the medical facility (MF). They will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.

Halton Medical Centre are Networked with High Wycombe Medical Centre so there may be times that the role will have to work across both sites to support.

Duties and responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:
  • To deliver a high standard of patient care as delegated by a registered practitioner.
  • To manage own clinical workload responding effectively to patient need and ensuring patient choice. Escalate any concerns or issues outside of scope of practice to the registered practitioner.
  • Promote health and well‑being through the use of health promotion, health education, screening and therapeutic communication skills.
  • To undertake administration support as required.
  • Refer patients directly to other services/agencies as appropriate.
