Job description
Hseq Advisor • Newcastle under Lyme, England, UK

This HSQE Advisor position is a full-time role where you will be working with our South‑East depots whilst also assisting our wider team of Advisors across the UK. You will be working within the existing Health and Safety management team and this role will involve some lone working, night and weekend working, and staying away from home at times may be necessary to fulfil your duties.

This is a salaried position and a company vehicle will be provided. The successful candidate will receive the training required to do the job and any skill gaps will be addressed with additional assistance.

You will engage with WJ operatives and teams around the country, our clients and subcontractors. Your main duties will be but not limited to:

  • Provide professional advice and guidance on HSQE matters across the business.
  • Support the implementation monitoring and continuous improvement of management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
  • Conduct site inspections, audits and risk assessments ensuring compliance with legal and company requirements.
  • Produce clear and understandable reports detailing findings on HSEQ compliance standard and quality of work.
  • Develop and deliver training toolbox talks and awareness sessions.
  • Investigate incidents, prepare reports and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor and report on HSQE performance, driving improvement initiatives.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, quality and environmental responsibility.
  • Drug & Alcohol testing.
  • Chair and minute depot operatives H&S meetings.
  • Audit contractors against our HSEQ compliance systems.
  • Collaborate and communicate with customers and H&S teams.
  • Investigate the trialling of equipment or materials and report the findings.

Qualifications

What you will bring:

  • Prior experience as an HSQE Advisor (Construction industry experience desirable).
  • Flexible, proactive and eager to learn new skills and initiatives.
  • Strong team player who can also work independently to plan, organise and prioritise workload.
  • Excellent communicator, personable, confident and comfortable presenting to groups.
  • Self‑motivated, hardworking and able to engage with colleagues at all levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel).

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum NEBOSH General Health and Safety Certificate Level 3 or equivalent.
  • A full driving licence.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Have the ability to work in a fast‑moving and challenging environment.
