About the Team

Community Works is a dynamic, fast‑paced service at the heart of Lambeth’s Housing operations. We deliver communal repairs, HIA minor works, FRA remedials, groundworks, drainage and estate‑based maintenance across the borough. Our workforce brings together multi‑trade operatives, painters, groundworkers, HIA specialists, supervisors and area managers, all focused on providing a safe, reliable and responsive service for our residents.

Health and Safety is central to everything we do. With teams working across estates, communal areas, voids and planned works, we rely on strong professional leadership to embed safe systems of work, strengthen our safety culture and ensure colleagues go home safe each day. You will join a supportive leadership group that includes the Head of Community Works, two Area Managers (North and South) and operational Supervisors who manage day‑to‑day delivery.

We are an ambitious service investing in higher standards, better training, improved compliance and more consistent risk management. This is a collaborative environment where your expertise will directly shape how Community Works evolves and how we deliver safe, high‑quality services for our residents.

About the Role

The Health & Safety Manager will be the lead professional for all safety matters within Community Works, guiding our operational teams to work safely, confidently and in full compliance with Lambeth’s policies and statutory requirements. This role provides expert advice, practical support and constructive challenge across a diverse service delivering communal repairs, planned works, HIA minor works, FRA‑related activity, groundworks and drainage.

You will lead on developing and implementing safe systems of work, reviewing RAMS, undertaking site inspections, advising on incident investigations and supporting managers to embed a strong safety culture. You will also oversee training needs, ensure operatives have the right competencies for their roles, and work with supervisors and area managers to resolve emerging risks before they become issues.

The role works closely with Corporate Health & Safety, Compliance, Building Safety and senior managers within Community Works, making sure our operational delivery is aligned with wider organisational expectations. You will be a visible presence across our estates and depots, building rapport with staff, supporting learning and turning policy into practical, workable solutions.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys balancing strategic responsibility with hands‑on problem‑solving, and who wants to make a meaningful impact on the safety and wellbeing of our teams and residents.

Successful candidates will be asked to apply for an Enhanced Certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Further information about the DBS can be found at www.homeoffice.gov.uk/agencies-public-bodies/dbs
