Job summary

A leading UK water company is seeking a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor to deliver and oversee the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Strategy. This role involves frequent site visits and ensuring compliance with the Management System. You will be responsible for monitoring performance, advising on HSW matters, and engaging with stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a NEBOSH Certificate or extensive experience, alongside excellent communication skills and a passion for health and safety.

Job description
Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor – What you’ll be doing

In this role you will deliver our Health, Safety and Wellbeing Strategy while ensuring compliance with Thames Water’s Management System, Standards, Processes and Procedures. The role is field-based with hybrid working, requiring frequent travel within a specified region and occasionally throughout the wider Thames Water supply area.

  • Site visits – assurance and engagement, risk‑based with quantity based on business area and requirement. You will be on site 3 to 4 days a week and must hold a full, clean UK driving licence.
  • Support the delivery of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Strategy, lead or project manage work packages, brief stakeholders to required deadlines.
  • Monitor performance against the strategy, system, standards, processes and procedures.
  • Carry out relevant site HSW assurance, highlight good practice, risks and non‑compliance.
  • Advise stakeholders (internal and external) and contractors on HSW matters including compliance with applicable legislation and industry best practice.
  • Advise and support stakeholders to carry out incident investigations and support high‑risk incident investigations.
  • Verify incidents, actions and safety observations are tracked to closure in a timely manner.
  • Support stakeholders to identify training requirements, including reviewing and monitoring the Team Skills Register/Training Compliance.
  • Support the delivery of toolbox talks, inductions and briefings regarding HSW campaigns or concerns.
  • Proactively engage with stakeholders to motivate teams to report safety observations and improvements to raise standards on site.
  • Support individual ad‑hoc projects as directed and in line with current business needs and priorities.
  • Perform face fit testing as required.
Location and Working Hours

Across Thames Water patch – 36 hours a week.

Essential Criteria
  • NEBOSH Certificate OR extensive experience in operational environments.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Excellent communication, written and verbal skills with a demonstrable ability to communicate with all levels of an organisation.
  • A passion for Health, Safety and Wellbeing, leading by example.
  • Fully competent at using the appropriate company IT systems and office software.
  • In‑depth understanding of UK Safety, Health and Wellbeing Legislation.
Additional Skills and Experiences (great to have)
  • Technical knowledge of a related or operational industry (utilities, infrastructure, transport, manufacturing or construction) is advantageous but not essential.
  • Understanding of process safety, CDM and or working in the highway.
  • Understanding of Human and Organisational Performance (HOP).
