Overview
We are looking for an experienced Endoscopy Health Care Assistant (HCA) or an existing Health Care Assistant seeking a career change to a more specialist area with opportunities for development in Endoscopy. The role involves joining an energetic Endoscopy team within Southport and Ormskirk Hospital, working towards accreditation through the Joint Advisory Group (JAG) on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. The department focuses on delivering high quality treatment quickly in clean and comfortable surroundings. Mentoring, training and guidance will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Admission and recovery of patients; assisting with patient care in procedure rooms after training.
- Rotate across different roles and sites (Southport and Ormskirk) as part of the Endoscopy team.
- Work with specialties including gastroenterology, urology, colorectal, respiratory and vascular.
- Provide in-house training with support from external sources.
- Work closely with Medical and Nursing staff, uphold patient-first values.
- Participate in a busy endoscopy service that is progressing towards JAG accreditation.
- Assist with clinical tasks, follow care plans, and report changes; assist with risk assessments and sample collection as appropriate.
- Safely deliver care duties including handling patient equipment (e.g., hoists, wheelchairs).
- Support patient feeding, nutrition, and hydration, recording intake and output; report changes to nursing staff.
- Maintain patient property according to Trust policy and monitor supplies for the department.
- Contribute to the learning environment; support/supervise students or junior staff when requested.
- Participate in audits, surveys, and development activities as applicable.
- Adhere to Trust policies and procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
- Move towards a senior patient-focused role, escalating concerns as required and ensuring patient safety.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Previous experience in endoscopy is a strong advantage, but relevant healthcare experience will be considered.
- Training is provided in-house with external support; willingness to learn and pursue ongoing professional development is required.
- Ability to work flexibly, be reliable and enthusiastic; good communication and teamwork skills are essential.
