An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health Care Assistant to join our expanding nursing team. We are looking to increase our HCA support by 16 - 18 hours to be worked over 2/3 days.
Responsibilities

Nursing duties including venepuncture, glucose tolerance tests, blood pressure checks, height/weight monitoring, body mass index, urinalysis and phlebotomy; participate in programmes for the management of long-term conditions; provide lifestyle advice and make necessary referrals; encourage self-care and self-management of self-limiting conditions through health promotion; ensure specimens are labelled and bagged with the necessary paperwork completed.

Administrative and professional responsibilities: ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded; keep the clinical system up to date; ensure clinical targets are achieved at all patient contacts; ensure documentation for patient health care and registration is complete; collect and maintain statistical information for reports; assist in seasonal and special projects such as flu campaigns; order and display health promotion materials; restock consumables and clinical areas; act as a chaperone when requested.

Management of the appointment system: book appointments and recalls ensuring sufficient information is recorded.

Infection control: adopt appropriate infection control procedures, maintain clean and safe work areas, and report potential risks; practice handwashing, universal hygiene procedures, safe handling of specimens, waste disposal, instrument decontamination, sharps injury reporting, and management of blood and body fluid spillages; understand cold chain principles; ensure safe storage and disposal of vaccines and drugs; ensure clinical waste collection runs smoothly and sharps bins are labelled and collected.

Service improvement: participate in clinical audits where appropriate; assist in developing local guidelines and protocols; work with the team on new services and initiatives; stay informed of current approaches to patient care within general practice.

You will be joining an established, hardworking, friendly team with regular social events. We have weekly clinical meetings with the larger clinical team and nursing team meetings, and you will be well supported within the practice.
We are a SystmOne practice with high QOF achievement. Denton Turret has 3 GP Partners, 2 salaried GPs, 2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, 1 Emergency Care Practitioner, 2 Practice Nurses and 2 HCAs within the clinical team.
As part of Newcastle Outer West Network, we have access to First Contact Physiotherapists, First Contact Mental Health workers, Dieticians, Counsellors, Pharmacists and Lifestyle coaches.

Job Summary
The post-holder will work under the direct supervision of the Practice Nurse and in accordance with practice guidelines and protocols to assist the practice clinical team with care of patients, including treatment, preventative care, screening, patient education, and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Qualifications
- Care Certificate for Health and Social Care

- Experience in Primary or Secondary Care
