Job description

We are an expanding GP surgery in Horsham looking to recruit a caring and enthusiastic Health Care Assistant to join our exceptionally friendly and hard-working nurse team. The post holder will provide care and support to our patients by undertaking a range of delegated clinical tasks, as well as assisting with the administration of patient cohorts, for example the booking of patient appointments for long-term health conditions.

The hours on offer are:

  • Mondays - 07.30 to 16.00 1 hour lunch
  • Tuesdays - 08.00 to 16.00 - 1 hour lunch
  • Wednesdays - 08.00 to 16.00 - 1 hour lunch
  • Thursdays - Day Off
  • Fridays - Day Off
  • Saturdays 08.00 to 12.00
Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have excellent organisational and time management skills and be passionate about delivering holistic care that has the patient at its centre. The post holder will be supported to develop skills and abilities, both to enhance their career and to provide an appropriate level of care to patients. Applicants will have an NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) and be able to demonstrate previous experience as a Health Care Assistant, either in primary or secondary care.

Job responsibilities
  1. Provide clinical support to registered nurses and other healthcare professionals within the organisation
  2. Assist with the calling/recalling of patients for care management and appointments
  3. Support the practice nurse team with the management of Chronic Disease clinics
  4. Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, weight and BMI
  5. Review triage submissions and make nurse / HCA appointments as needed
  6. Review communications in SystmOne and book appropriate nursing appointments as needed
  7. Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
  8. Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
  9. Undertake Year of Care annual reviews - diabetes screening to include foot checks
  10. Provide support during minor operations as required
  11. Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisation's IPC Policy
  12. Undertake venepuncture
  13. Carry out ECGs as requested
  14. Carry out Shingles, Pneumococcal and B12 injections
  15. Carry out NHS Health Checks
  16. Carry out learning disability health checks
  17. Attend weekly educational meetings
  18. Flexibility to cover holidays and sickness
  19. Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
