Job Description

Health and Safety Advisor - Surrey

Major construction projects involving building/civil engineering, mechanical, and electrical work. Salary: £50k-£52k + package (car/car allowance, pension).

Key responsibilities:
  1. Provide guidance and advice on compliance with statutory requirements and company standards through Guidance and Observation visits.
  2. Respond to advice requests within area of expertise, collaborating with the Safety, Health and Environmental Manager.
  3. Undertake risk assessments related to Safety, Health, and Environmental aspects.
  4. Work proactively with operational teams throughout the project lifecycle to ensure SHE considerations are integrated and control measures are implemented.
  5. Assist in the implementation of OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 standards.
  6. Monitor company projects actively using the monitoring system to identify areas of poor practice or significant risk.
  7. Investigate incidents, produce detailed reports with root causes and recommendations for improvement.
  8. Liaise with enforcing authorities as necessary.
  9. Support the SHE Manager in updating policies and procedures related to SHE management.
  10. Collaborate with senior managers and directors on strategies for SHE improvement.
  11. Stay informed on new legislation and industry best practices via journals, websites, and site visits.
  12. Raise awareness of SHE and sustainability issues through toolbox talks and briefings, delivering training when necessary.
Qualifications/Experience:
  • NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate (minimum)
  • Experience working within a SHE team and supporting operational units proactively.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of UK SHE legislation.
  • Experience operating OHSAS 18001 and/or ISO 14001 systems.
  • Relevant construction sector experience.
