Head of Sustainability ESG & Report
Location : Chiswick moving to Covent Garden as of 1st September 2025 / Remote dependent on candidate location.
About the role
This role will be responsible for leading BSI’s ESG reporting strategy and execution, ensuring alignment with key regulatory frameworks and stakeholder expectations. Sitting within the Group Sustainability function, the role oversees ESG‑related data management, internal coordination across functions and disclosure processes—primarily focusing on TCFD at present and preparing for potential compliance with TNFD, ISSB, CSRD, EU Taxonomy in the future. The postholder will also coordinate the Sustainable Operations and GHG sections of BSI’s Annual Report.
The role requires close collaboration with Strategy, Finance, People, Risk and Operations teams to embed ESG reporting requirements into business‑as‑usual processes, ensuring data accuracy, consistency and improvement over time.
Responsibilities
- Own and lead the end‑to‑end ESG reporting process, including governance, planning, data collection, validation, narrative development and assurance where applicable.
- Lead BSI’s TCFD disclosure efforts and prepare for compliance with future ESG regulatory standards (e.g., TNFD, ISSB, CSRD, EU Taxonomy), maturing BSI’s approach and reporting year on year.
- Collaborate with Finance, Risk, Strategy, HR and Operational teams to embed ESG metrics into business‑as‑usual workflows.
- Lead cross‑functional working groups to align ESG reporting with BSI’s overall corporate strategy and performance management.
- Coordinate input and data collection for the sustainability and GHG disclosure sections of the Annual Report.
- Design and lead programmes to improve the availability, quality and auditability of ESG data, working closely with internal systems and data teams.
- Establish ESG data governance protocols, controls and accountability structures across departments.
- Stay abreast of regulatory and market developments, providing guidance and updates to internal stakeholders.
- Represent BSI in external stakeholder engagements and reporting forums, including ESG ratings and rankings agencies.
- Maintain continuous benchmarking of peers, competitors and best practice.
- Identify opportunities to apply relevant BSI standards and solutions to strengthen ESG disclosure processes.
- Support the BSI Operational Sustainability Excellence team in activities such as Ecovadis, CDP submissions and responses to sustainability questions in bids and tenders, enhancing BSI’s commercial advantage through improved quality and analysis of responses.
Qualifications
- Demonstrable experience in stakeholder engagement and management up to C‑Suite level.
- Experience working across a global matrix‑style organisation.
- Experience embedding ESG & Reporting standards into business practice.
- Highly collaborative with the ability to influence.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical language to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Previous management of ESG disclosures within a global organisation.
- Understanding of supply chain sustainability.
- Deep understanding and experience in ESG and reporting standards.
