The Head of Surveillance Tuning and Calibration is aa senior leadership role within the Change & Digital Enablement Team, reporting to the Global Head of Analytics, working in partnership with the Global Surveillance Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that surveillance scenarios, detection models and alerting thresholds are actively calibrated to maximise risk detection in an evolving risk landscape, minimizing false positives while ensuring the detection of genuine market abuse and conduct risks.

This role will focus on building and maintaining a robust tuning methodology, leveraging both data science and subject matter expertise (SME), ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and industry best practice. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across various teams and roles including Surveillance Product and Model Owners, Technology and Operational teams to continuously enhance and refine the bank’s surveillance capabilities.

In this role you will:
  • Lead the global tuning and calibration function for surveillance, ensuring models are optimized for effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain a structured methodology for tuning and calibrating surveillance models, ensuring transparency and ability to stand up to scrutiny from internal and external inspection.
  • Leverage data science, machine learning, analytics in conjunction with Surveillance SME to define methods for improved ongoing calibration and will explain findings to non-technical teams in a clear and concise manner.
  • Conduct regular testing, validation and effectiveness reviews of surveillance models to ensure they remain fit for purpose and in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Work in partnership with Product Owners, Analytics experts and the Data Management team to ensure that both the Programmatic and Agile program is delivered to the requisite standards.
To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
  • Prior experience in Surveillance and Analytics.
  • Thorough understanding of regulatory expectations for surveillance model tuning and calibration.
  • Experience in leveraging machine learning and advanced analytics for surveillance model enhancements.
  • Prior experience leading a technical team to deliver strategic change.
  • Understanding of conduct risk, market abuse risk, and non-financial risk frameworks.
  • Proven capability to liaise with senior stakeholders on surveillance and analytics related matters.

This role is based in London on a hybrid working basis.
