Overview

We are seeking a motivated and dynamic Head of Sport – Modern Pentathlon to lead this exciting programme within Millfield’s renowned sporting environment. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of our athletes, combining expert coaching, athlete development, and pathway support at one of the UK’s leading independent schools.

The role involves overseeing individual athletes’ training programmes, fixtures, and competitions whilst balancing athlete development to enhance student performance. Building strong links with Modern Pentathlon GB, governing bodies, and external partners will be key to ensuring the programme remains aligned with national and international pathways.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee individual athletes’ training programmes, fixtures and competitions, balancing athlete development with performance outcomes.
  • Develop and implement pathways aligned with national and international guidelines in collaboration with Modern Pentathlon GB and external partners.
  • Lead coaching and athlete development within the programme, creating a safe, inclusive, and ambitious environment.
Qualifications
  • Recognised Strength and Conditioning qualification (UKSCA or equivalent desirable).
  • At least one sport-specific qualification at Level 2 or above (preferably obstacle course racing qualification/experience).
  • Minimum of six years’ experience in sport.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and leadership skills.
Contract, salary and benefits
  • Two-year fixed-term position running until 31st August 2027, with an average of 42 hours per week worked across Monday to Saturday, year-round.
  • Salary £30,000 – £33,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
  • 10 weeks of annual holiday (to be taken outside of term time).
  • Freshly prepared lunches available for £10.30 per month.
