Job description
Overview

Are you looking for a role in a dynamic, agile working environment that will provide you with an outstanding opportunity to help the Legal & Secretariat function to be Future Ready? Do you have experience in a Chief Operating office setting or in Legal operations, where you have delivered costs and headcount to budget, been part of resetting risk, had oversight of third party suppliers, been the business owner of a Platform application, and had policy compliance oversight for the function? If you're saying yes to some or all of these, then this opportunity may be perfect for you.

Legal & Secretariat (L&S) is a forward‑looking and innovative team with a clear ambition to be multi‑skilled, agile and capitalising on technology while being informed by data. We provide expert legal & governance advice and support to businesses and functions across the Group in service of our purpose to Help Britain Prosper. You will lead the Legal Operations team of circa 12 colleagues who serve the teams providing legal and governance advice. The Legal Operations team incorporates the Chief Controls Office, the Business Unit Data Office and Supplier Management.

Key Responsibilities

Being part of the L&S Extended Leadership Team involves working closely with the L&S Senior Leadership Team to deliver L&S strategy and change activity. You will be responsible for leading on the achievement of the function's balanced scorecard objectives on budget, headcount, risk and people metrics. The role includes governance of the L&S function including budget forecasting, strategic workforce planning and Organisation Health reviews. You will also be a member of the Disputes & Operations Leadership team, reporting to the General Counsel, Disputes & Operations.

Key Competencies
  • Be highly motivated and play a key role in enabling the delivery of first‑class, technology‑enabled services.
  • Demonstrate ability to handle high‑profile priorities simultaneously and an ability to think in an agile way, and quickly 'join the dots' between discrete pieces of information.
  • Be a confident and credible communicator and writer, able to influence and give concise, persuasive advice at the highest level.
  • Be versatile and be able to work at pace.
  • Demonstrate exceptional people skills and a strong passion for building relationships and supporting colleagues' development.
What You’ll Need (Qualifications)
  • Have delivered costs and headcount to budget.
  • Have been part of resetting risk or risk management.
  • Had oversight of third‑party suppliers.
  • Have been the business owner of a Platform application; and
  • Had oversight of policy compliance for the function, Disability Confident.
Disability Confident Employer

A Disability Confident employer will generally offer an interview to any applicant that declares they have a disability and meets the minimum criteria for the job as defined by the employer. In certain recruitment situations such as high‑volume, seasonal and high‑peak times, the employer may wish to limit the overall numbers of interviews offered to both disabled people and non‑disabled people. We were one of the first major organisations to set goals on diversity in senior roles, create a menopause health package, and a dedicated Working with Cancer Initiative. We offer reasonable workplace adjustments for colleagues with disabilities, including flexibility in office attendance, location and working patterns. As a Disability Confident Leader, we guarantee interviews for a fair and proportionate number of applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the role with a disability, long‑term health or neurodivergent condition through the Disability Confident Scheme. We provide reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process to reduce or remove barriers. Just let us know what you need.

  • Share schemes including free shares
  • Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping
  • 30 days' holiday, with bank holidays on top
