About the role

The Head of Operations will lead all operational activities for Budget Energy (BENI) across Northern Ireland. The role also supports operations for Flogas NI (FLNI) and other related Flogas businesses were aligned with strategic priorities. The role covers both gas and electricity for commercial and residential markets.

This position comes at a pivotal time of significant growth and transformation. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving operational excellence across front-office and back-office functions, including administration, billing, and customer lifecycle activities. A core priority is ensuring full compliance with regulatory obligations while building a strong, collaborative, and customer-focused culture.

Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
  • Lead and manage teams delivering operational services including administration, billing, and customer support across BENI and FLNI operations.
  • Act as the senior operational lead on-site in Derry for major projects - including regulatory updates, system developments and industry changes.
  • Embed strong operational governance, ensuring process optimisation and continuous improvement.
Regulation & Compliance
  • Ensure full operational compliance with NI regulatory requirements for electricity and gas markets.
  • Lead and coordinate consultation responses from an operations perspective, engaging SMEs across the teams to deliver well‑evidenced, strategic submissions.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to risk management and regulatory change readiness.
Business Growth & Performance
  • Support delivery of ambitious growth plans across commercial and residential channels.
  • Monitor operational performance and customer outcomes, driving efficiency and optimisation initiatives.
  • Partner with Sales, Commercial, and Finance functions to support expansion and customer retention objectives.
Strategic Transformation & Group Collaboration
  • Drive transformation programmes across BENI, FLNI, and relevant Flogas businesses, ensuring alignment to wider group direction.
  • Lead the adoption of digital tools, automation, and data‑driven decision‑making to elevate performance.
  • Build strong working relationships with IT, Compliance, Customer Experience, and Group Operations.
People Leadership & Culture
  • Foster a high‑performance culture that prioritises teamwork, accountability, and customer service excellence.
  • Develop leaders and talent pipelines within operations and promote employee engagement and well‑being.
  • Champion inclusion and ensure a safe, supportive working environment aligned to company values.
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be an experienced operational leader with a strong track record of managing multi‑disciplinary teams across administration, billing, and customer support within regulated environments. They will bring deep knowledge of electricity and gas market operations in Northern Ireland, with the credibility to act as the senior on‑site operational lead in Derry for major regulatory, system, and industry change initiatives. Commercially astute and performance‑focused, they will drive operational efficiency, support business growth across residential and commercial channels, and partner effectively with Sales, Commercial, and Finance teams. The successful candidate will be a strategic change leader, comfortable driving transformation, digital adoption, and data‑led decision‑making across group operations, while fostering a high‑performance, inclusive culture that develops people, promotes well‑being, and delivers excellent customer outcomes.
