Overview

Head of Nuclear Medicine Physics

Consultant Clinical Scientist - Band 8C

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated medical physicist to lead on the development of this service with opportunities for research and development. Candidates should have sufficient experience to act as the lead Medical Physics Expert for diagnostic and for non-oncological therapeutic nuclear medicine, and will also work closely with other staff in the delivery of oncological radioisotope therapies. Candidates should have both an RWA certificate and an RPA certificate relevant to Nuclear Medicine.

Job responsibilities

To manage and lead all aspects of the diagnostic and therapeutic (non-oncological outpatients) Nuclear Medicine Physics service at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust and to ensure compliance with statutory requirements. To take primary responsibility for all scientific aspects of the Nuclear Medicine Physics and Radionuclide Protection Service provided to the other hospitals listed above. To act as the lead Medical Physics Expert (as defined under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017), and Radiation Protection Advisor (as defined in the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017) for nuclear medicine at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, and for nuclear medicine at any other hospitals to whom the Trust provides nuclear medicine physics services. To work closely with other staff in the delivery of oncological radionuclide therapies. To act as a Radioactive Waste Advisor to all the Trusts mentioned above. To implement and sustain any strategic change or improvement in the delivery of the service as agreed with the Head of Radiology Physics, Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist and the Directorate Managers in the Imaging and Oncology, Haematology and Medical Physics Directorates.
