LAW AT Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College is looking for an inspirational and visionary individual for the full‑time post of Head of Law, to build on the academic success of the subject area and further develop the team. The Law department is extremely high‑performing with a track record of achieving Outstanding ALPs value added for over six years and year‑on‑year student growth attracted by outstanding outcomes, specialist accommodation and strong links with legal employers in the city. We are especially excited to launch a T Level Legal Services from September 2026, featuring a mock courtroom and full resources.

Responsibilities
  • Provide effective leadership and management of the Law Department to maintain outstanding standards of student achievement and attainment.
  • Develop, motivate and inspire colleagues in line with the College's Ethos and Mission Statement.
  • Pro‑actively lead the department in delivering outstanding quality of education, reflected in key performance indicators, especially value added and high grades.
  • Lead the curriculum and curriculum development of the department.
  • Rigorously monitor and track the quality assurance in teaching, learning and assessment to ensure consistency of outstanding provision.
  • Act as a 'champion of the student' and oversee monitoring and improvement of student performance in key performance indicators.
  • Employ strategies to maintain outstanding retention and achievement in line with college and national benchmarks.
  • Produce an annual Self‑Assessment Review (SAR) and involve staff and students in the process.
  • Develop a vibrant, enriching and enjoyable experience for all students within the department.
  • Manage the departmental budget and allocate resources efficiently.
  • Conduct staff appraisals and ensure training and development needs are met.
  • Allocate responsibilities to maximise the skills and talents of individuals.
  • Organise formal and informal meetings and attend College meetings as scheduled.
  • Prepare timely reports for Senior Leadership Team and Governors.
  • Ensure all staff and students comply with College policies and procedures.
  • Publicise and promote the department’s work, liaising with partner schools, higher education, employers, examination boards and awarding bodies.
  • Manage deployment of staff and physical resources flexibly and efficiently.
  • Contribute to College Liaison events including open events, marketing, admissions, enrolment and induction processes.
  • Champion safeguarding, promote the welfare of children and young people, and adhere to the College’s Equality, Diversity and Health and Safety requirements.
  • Fulfil other duties reasonably associated with the post and commensurate with its responsibility level.
Teaching, Learning and Assessment
  • Own classes and deliver high‑quality learning, teaching and assessment in accordance with main scale teacher duties and College policies.
  • Lead departmental teaching, learning and assessment strategies and initiatives to ensure outstanding quality provision.
  • Monitor every student’s achievement according to value added, assessment and attendance.
  • Develop high‑quality resources, schemes of work and assessment materials.
  • Enhance the subject through enrichment activities to maximise student engagement.
  • Plan departmental activities reflecting student needs and College aims.
  • Adopt varied teaching and learning styles and integrate ILT into programmes of study.
  • Collaborate with the team and foster effective working relationships.
  • Assess students’ work following the College assessment policy.
  • Implement an appropriate programme of teaching as a main scale teacher.
Quality Assurance and Professional Development
  • Actively participate in staff development activities and the College appraisal system.
  • Help set departmental targets and work toward their achievement.
  • Embed and further develop effective teaching and learning strategies using Rosenshine principles.
  • Participate in lesson observation procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date information on students and their progress.
  • Communicate and consult with parents when appropriate, including report writing and attendance at Parents’ Evenings.
