About the role

The Head of Finance is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight of the School’s financial activities across all companies in the group. This is a hands-on role, taking ownership of statutory reporting, management accounts, forecasting, and compliance, while leading an internal Finance department and ensuring robust financial management across the organisation.

This is a new role within the school and the successful candidate will lead on bringing in-house many functions currently delivered by an external accounting provider, including the preparation of management accounts, statutory accounts, payroll oversight, Office for Students (OfS) financial returns, and grant funding allocations.

A key part of the role will be managing both UK and US reporting requirements, including US GAAP accounts for our Los Angeles company and FRS 102 accounts for the main UK limited company, the Group, and its subsidiaries, ensuring that differences in treatments are tracked and reconciled accurately.

About you

You will be an experienced finance professional and confident self-starter, able to lead your team on bringing in-house many functions currently delivered by an external accounting provider.

Working closely with senior leaders, you will provide clear financial insight to support decision-making and ensure that all financial processes meet regulatory and audit requirements. You will oversee the Finance department’s student-facing responsibilities, which include a high volume of student finance administration, payment processing, and related enquiries, requiring excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach.

You will lead on the development and implementation of finance policies and procedures, ensuring these are clearly documented and well understood by the team. This role requires a balance of strategic thinking and practical delivery, with the ability to step into operational finance work where needed, particularly during busy periods such as quarter-end and year-end.
