Job description

Robertson Bell are delighted to be supporting a high-performing Education provider based in East London to recruit a permanent Head of Finance, as part of their transition to a fully in-house finance function in order to strengthen corporate succession plans.

Despite a challenging environment across the sector, our client is performing incredibly well; operating a surplus each year and consistently climbing the sectors respective performance tables. As they look to continue on this trajectory, the Head of Finance will be instrumental in maintaining an annual surplus and facilitating investments that allow allow for continued performance improvement.

In addition, the Head of Finance will be responsible for:

  • Setting the organisations budget and working closely with budget holders throughout the year to support spending and identify opportunities.
  • Collaborating with department heads and senior leadership to find and appraise investment opportunities to further the organisations offering.
  • Seeking out areas to improve existing finance processes that have been inherited from the out-sourced provider.
  • Preparing the statutory accounts and leading the engagement with external auditors.
  • Line managing two direct reports, responsible for month end and transactional processing.
  • Overseeing the timely and accurate submission of statutory and regulatory returns.

Our client is looking for:

  • An experienced finance professional, with experience overseeing the full spectrum of operational accounting responsibilities in a small-to-medium size nonprofit organisation. Charities, Schools and Academies are of particular interest.
  • Someone that will buy into the organisation’s goals and support these from a finance perspective, but also be willing to offer thoughts and ideas outside of ‘just finance’.
  • A CCAB or CIMA qualified accountant, adept in delivering statutory accounting returns and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Line management experience and an eye for developing not just people but also systems and processes.

This is a hybrid role, with on-site parking and public transport links close by. Our client is looking for the Head of Finance to be on-site three days per week but would be open to a conversation if some flexibilities were to be required in the future. In addition to the salary on offer, you would be part of a generous pension scheme and great holiday allowance.
