A leading water utility company is seeking a Head of Engineering in Pity Me, UK. The role involves providing leadership to a multi-disciplinary engineering team and ensuring alignment with strategic goals. We’ve an amazing leadership opportunity to become our new Head of Engineering within our Asset Management directorate, reporting into our Asset Management Director.
You’ll provide overall leadership to a dedicated multi‑disciplinary leadership team for the NWL Engineering and Design community to ensure strategic direction and consistency of approach in the development, delivery, and commissioning of efficient engineering solutions across the Asset and Programme Delivery lifecycle and wider operational business.
We’re looking for you to implement appropriate TOTEX challenge, from the earliest lifecycle stages, to maximise the value of the investment, identifying and embedding efficiencies into projects at an appropriate asset risk. You’ll be promoting the application of innovation, industry best practice, and continuous improvement which will be embodied in NWL’s engineering standards & specifications and asset standards.
You’ll be contributing to the strategic and tactical direction as part of the Asset Leadership Team, with focus on your strategic leadership of the engineering community, through development of a high performing team with the capability and capacity to support NWG as a Capable Owner.
We’re looking for you to ensure NWG and supply partner activity aligns to company quality standards, satisfies relevant legislative and regulatory requirements and ensures everyone goes home safe every day, ensuring the team is sufficiently resourced and are fully competent and trained to deliver effective and safe design and construction.
You’ll be leading the transformational change needed to support NWG’s ownership of engineering solutions as a Capable Owner, developing and maintaining key relationships and seek active engagement with other departments, including Service Planning, Maintenance and Operations.
We’re looking for you to establish and maintain technical governance processes and procedures in alignment with the E2E process to ensure appropriate technical decision making, as well as ensuring robust and timely technical scrutiny at each gate with a clear focus on driving value through early technical challenge prior to project initiation.
This role has also been defined as a safety or security critical role and as a condition of a formal offer of employment you’ll be required to undergo a drug and alcohol test.
Prospective employees and agency workers in defined safety and security critical roles will be required to undertake a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made. This will be prior to or within four weeks of their start date. Prospective employees and agency workers who fail a pre‑employment urine drug screen will have their sample analysed by the Company appointed laboratory as a matter of course. Failing a pre‑employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked.
Please note this role will require a DBS to be completed prior to employment.

We’re looking for you to be a proven engineering professional, with a proven track record of success through your leadership, delivery of transformational change and technical responsibility for a sizeable portfolio of engineering projects and your high professional standards as a professional / expert engineer.
You’ll have proven experience of Totex engineering and risk and value challenge of asset investment and delivery, Asset management across the full lifecycle, the definition and delivery of transformational change and cost benefit analysis and economic appraisal of options.
We’re looking for you to have proven experience in leading and developing an Engineering team to be able to fulfil the required function, as well as experience in management of SHE.
You’ll be a Chartered Engineering Professional, ideally degree level qualified with supplementary relevant Masters qualification in a relevant discipline, along with the proven skills of strong leadership and team building skills in a complex, dynamic environment. Proven experience of managing teams at senior levels.
You’ll have strong communication skills and emotional intelligence, able to bring people on a change journey, so having credibility as an able engineer with significant intellectual and engineering analytical skills and the ability to draw sound conclusions from large volumes of data would be key to being successful in the role.
We’re looking for you to have the proven ability to challenge technical solutions to deliver minimum viable solutions that satisfy business risks / outcomes, along with your sound and extensive engineering, project management and programme management delivery.
