We are currently seeking to fill the position of Head of Art .

Head of Art

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Head of Art, committed to the quality of learning and teaching and to providing an engaging and inspiring experience for the pupils. You will lead a supportive and committed Art department.

Main purpose of the role

You will be able to deliver the subject to GCSE and A-level standard, and have experience of teaching Fine Art to a high level. You will convey interest and passion for the subject in the classroom.

We are looking for a candidate with high expectations of students, who will maintain the high grades achieved in recent years while also promoting a love of the subject inside and outside the classroom .

This is a full-time permanent post. Loretto has its own salary scale and salary will be determined by experience and aptitude for the role.

Experience, skills and qualifications

You will have a recognised teaching qualification and be registered with the GTCS or in the process of achieving this.

You will also have the following skills and experience:

  • a passion for Art in general, and an ability to share this with pupils
  • a high level of academic qualification in Art
  • ability to teach one or more of the following specialisms Painting, Printmaking or Sculpture to a high level is essential.
  • the ability to plan, prepare and deliver creative and challenging lessons to all age groups, with an emphasis on practical aspects of the subject
  • the confidence to use innovative teaching methods that enhance learning and teaching
  • the creativity to produce resources which contribute to teaching and departmental development
  • good organisational skills and punctuality
  • able to work as part of a team and to share ideas with colleagues

All members of staff have broader roles in the pastoral care of children and the extra-curricular life of the school which would include opening the Art department outside lessons.You will be a tutor to around ten tutees and will also undertake an evening duty in a boarding house once a week.
