Head of Accounts – Truro (outskirts) - £45-£50k + Hybrid working

Trial Balance Consulting have been exclusively engaged by a long‑standing Cornish employer experiencing sustained growth, who seek to recruit an experienced Head of Accounts to take a leading role within their finance function. This is a broad, hands‑on position where you’ll oversee core financial operations, manage a developing team and play a key part in delivering accurate, timely and insightful financial reporting. The role offers hybrid working with a regular presence required at their offices based on the outskirts of Truro.

Working closely with senior leadership, you’ll take responsibility for ensuring the accuracy, integrity and consistency of financial information across multiple entities. This is a role for a confident finance professional who enjoys improving processes, supporting decision‑making and embedding strong financial controls.

Responsibilities
  • Leading the production of monthly management accounts for all entities
  • Overseeing financial reporting activity including trial balance, accruals, pre‑payments and reconciliations
  • Managing day‑to‑day AP/AR operations, ensuring timely processing of invoices, payments and collections
  • Mentoring and developing the finance team, promoting high performance and best practice
  • Contributing to company‑wide budgeting and forecasting
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations including VAT (reverse charge), CIS and internal controls
  • Managing monthly, quarterly and annual ESG financial reporting
  • Supporting year‑end audit preparation and liaising with external auditors
  • Maintaining and improving financial systems, processes and internal controls
  • Working closely with operational teams to streamline processes and share financial insight
  • Overseeing debtor management and ensuring an effective credit control strategy
  • Handling confidential information with professionalism and discretion

We’re seeking an experienced senior finance professional, ideally with a background in a project‑led or manufacturing environment. You’ll bring strong technical accounting knowledge, proven experience producing and reviewing management accounts and confidence leading and developing a team. A professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or progression towards one would be welcome. You’ll need excellent Excel skills, strong systems experience and the ability to interpret complex data and communicate your insight clearly. Commercial awareness and a strategic mindset would be beneficial.

Success in this role will be seen through timely, accurate reporting, stronger financial processes, effective budget management, clean audit outcomes, improved cash flow visibility and supportive, collaborative relationships across the business.
