Overview

Growing Assistant — Location: Ross on Wye. Annual Salary: £14 - £16 per hour. Job Type: Full-time, Permanent. Join a leading soft fruit production company as a Growing Assistant. This role offers the opportunity to be part of a dynamic team dedicated to producing high-quality raspberries and blueberries. You will play a crucial role in supporting all aspects of production from growing to harvest.

Responsibilities
  • Perform husbandry and growing tasks such as tunnel construction and maintenance, support systems, and assisting with new growing projects.
  • Monitor production jobs including growing and harvest processes.
  • Manage, train, and monitor the performance of the supervising team and seasonal staff.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day logistics of work teams.
  • Host training inductions for new employees.
  • Monitor health and safety and report any issues.
  • Maintain accurate production records.
  • Step in to cover for the Harvest Assistant when absent.
  • During the winter, work regular hours (Monday to Friday, 39 hours per week). During the busy harvest season, expect long hours and weekend work.
Qualifications
  • Experience with soft fruit growing or harvest is beneficial, but full training will be provided.
  • Practically minded with a hands-on approach.
  • Strong organisation and planning skills.
  • Experience managing groups of people.
  • Innovative thinking and a positive approach.
  • Passion for working in the Fresh Produce Industry.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of Russian or Bulgarian would be advantageous but is not required.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK long term and a full clean driving licence.
