The role

The Group Innovation Strategy Manager leads and manages analysis that underpins the work of the Group Innovation team. This includes directly supporting SSE’s CEO, Group Executive Committee (GEC) and Innovation Advisory Council in strategic decision‑making by providing data, insight, and recommendations for innovation‑led business growth.

You will

The Group Innovation Strategy Manager will support both Group and Business Unit (BU) innovation strategy development and the communication of SSE's Strategy to both internal and external stakeholders. A key focus is on delivering a programme of horizon scanning to identify strategic innovation themes that sit across the Group.

  • Lead strategic analysis and innovation initiatives to inform corporate decision‑making and long‑term business strategy.
  • Support Business Unit innovation strategy by delivering insights, fostering collaboration, and evaluating emerging technologies to drive growth aligned with Group objectives.
  • Communicate SSE’s Innovation Strategy and strengthen Group innovation capabilities through impactful materials, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge‑sharing initiatives.
You have
  • The ability to lead complex analysis of external trends, technologies, and markets, and translate insights into actionable innovation strategies that support business growth.
  • Outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills with a proven experience in presenting complex information clearly, building relationships across diverse internal and external networks, and influencing senior leaders and cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong business and financial acumen with a deep understanding of strategy and innovation frameworks, with the ability to assess opportunities, appraise risks, and align innovation initiatives with overall group objectives.
  • A track record of managing multiple priorities, working across different technologies and business units, and fostering inclusive, high‑performing teams that value diverse perspectives and approaches.
  • A demonstrated passion for horizon scanning, research, and staying ahead of emerging trends, with a commitment to cultivating innovation capabilities and collaborating/sharing knowledge across the organisation.
