Responsibilities

  • Deputise for the Head of Health and Safety, representing the function at Board and Executive Forums.
  • Collaborate with Directors and senior leaders to embed the 'Safer Every Day' culture.
  • Lead and develop a team of safety professionals.
  • Own and deliver safety performance reports.
  • Lead the development and governance of safety policies and procedures.
  • Lead external safety audits and accreditation processes.
  • Ensure robust risk monitoring and drive improvements in compliance.

Location: Flexible across the Anglian Water region

What you’ll be doing:

  • Deputising and Representation: Deputise for the Head of Health and Safety, representing the function at Board and Executive Forums, and contributing to strategic leadership.
  • Strategic Business Partnering: Collaborate with Directors and senior leaders to embed the “Safer Every Day” culture, aligning safety strategies with business goals.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Lead and develop a team of safety professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
  • Corporate Safety Reporting: Own and deliver safety performance reports, highlighting risks and informing decision-making at Board level.
  • Policy and System Ownership: Lead the development, review, and governance of safety policies, procedures, and systems, ensuring compliance with legislation, ISO standards, and best practices.
  • External Audit and Accreditation: Lead external safety audits and accreditation processes, maintaining relationships with regulatory bodies like HSE and Water UK.
  • Risk Management and Compliance: Ensure robust risk monitoring and drive improvements in compliance areas such as COSHH and risk assessments.

What it takes to be successful:

  • Senior-Level Experience in Health & Safety leadership, ideally in a complex environment. Management experience is essential.
  • Degree or Diploma in Health and Safety.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking with the ability to influence decisions.
  • Experience in developing and managing safety policies and systems.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including working with Boards and external partners.
  • Leadership and coaching skills, with a passion for developing people and building a high-performance culture.
  • Adaptability, curiosity, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
